About the Applicant

Ionic Technologies is a global leader in rare earth recycling, delivering a secure, sustainable and commercially viable supply of critical materials that underpin the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Through its investment in Belfast, the company is establishing not just a new facility, but a new model of industrial activity that combines advanced technology, environmental responsibility and economic value. In doing so, it positions Northern Ireland at the forefront of a strategically important global industry.

The company’s technology has already delivered world-firsts, including producing key rare earth materials outside China and supporting the development of an electric vehicle motor alongside Ford made entirely from recycled rare earths.

This approach also delivers clear environmental benefits, including a reduction in carbon emissions of around 60%, and preventing the generation of the harmful by-products and emissions typically associated with traditional production methods.

Backed by £12m in UK Government funding and recognised by the US Government as a strategically important project, the Belfast facility will play a key role in building a more secure, sustainable and innovative supply of critical materials.

Where is the Proposed Site?

The proposed site is located within Titanic Quarter, on lands west of Musgrave Channel Road and south of Ashbank units at Channel Commercial Park, adjacent to Queens Road.

The location benefits from strong road connectivity to key linkages across Northern Ireland and, highly accessible public transport links and in close proximity to Belfast City Centre.
